Melbourne. It’s been compared to Berlin and New York (ish). Why? Well it can be a bit grungy, real and generally un-Australian. When you picture Australia you picture tan half naked blondes splashing in the ocean. Not pale ripped-jeans-wearing kids with no ocean in sight. Ok ok there is an ocean but it’s shit (Literally, there have been contamination warnings lately..) Melbourne can swing anywhere from 10 degrees to 35+ in the summer so they are prepared for anything. Let’s see what we can get up to in 24 hours.

First stop: Fitzroy! A grungy street with a vegan flair. Perfect place to immediately get the Melb vibe.

But first coffee? Ok. Your in hipster-villa so you can find decent coffee all over but if you want a nice breakfast and a newspaper head over to Alimentari and chill out (don’t worry they do take away too if you’re rushin’).

Alimentari 251 Brunswick St, Fitzroy

Ok now you’re ready? Start walking. Fitzroy is filled with treasures and the best way to do this is by walking the streets. There are tons of op shops and one of a kind stores and keep your eyes peeled for Melbourne’s famous street art hiding around every corner.

When you get hungry again duck into Shop ramen for some seriously good ramen. If you’re feeling sweet try their coconut salted caramel smoothie. Seriously. Lunch ends at 230 so hustle up!

Shop Ramen  329 Smith St, Fitzroy

Now keep shopping. Make your way to Naked for satan (yes that’s their name). Try to score a seat along the glass and check out the amazing view of the city. Have a beer up here it’s great for watching the sunset!

Naked For Satan 285 Brunswick St, Fitzroy

Next head over to Swanston street. Take the tram or even walk the short 35 minutes and check out even more street art along the way. If you walked and need a break head over to the state library of Victoria. Their lawn is great for chilling you might catch a busker or two playing tunes and enjoy people watching! Head in to check out the beautiful architecture and say hi to Shakespeare on the top floor! Need a workout? Walk up!

State library of Victoria 328 Swanston St

Ready for more drinks? Stop at Rooftop Cinema and go all the way to the top (forget the elevator it’s sloooow). You need more exercise anyways. Here is another great view of the city and if you get there early enough you can catch their indie movie showing at 8pm! Have a burger and sweet potato fries here they’re great!

Rooftop Cinema 252 Swanston St

All three of these places have great atmosphere, drinks, good food and vibe so try all in one night if you’re in a rush or stop at one a night if you have time to relax and enjoy the city.
